About Us

Nestled in the rolling hills above the quaint seaside village of Herold’s Bay, only 10 km outside George in South Africa’s Garden Route, is where you’ll find Herolds Bay Resort. With its magnificent 270 degree views of the splendid Indian Ocean and Mossel Bay point in the background, the green pastures of the surrounding countryside and the majestic contours of the Outeniqua Mountains, the Resort offers a true feeling of serenity.

The Resort, built in 2007, is settled on 66 hectares of farmland situated within hearing distance of the ocean. Very centrally located, it is about a 5-minute drive from George Airport, only 5 minutes’ drive from the beach and a stone’s throw from the Ernie Els-designed Oubaai Golf Resort. The central business district of George can also be reached within 15 minutes.

The Resort is home to 3 very unique and diverse venues – one, in the main building, the much-loved Down to Earth venue and restaurant, and two, tucked in a blue gum bush, the much-enjoyed Die Bush Lapa venue. Lastly is its beautifully appointed 3-star graded self-catering guesthouse comprising 4 different units that sleep 16 guests in total (family setup).

Our Down to Earth venue is synonymous with beautiful weddings, corporate and private functions, conferences and the best Sunday lunch experience in the Garden Route. Die Bush Lapa venue is famous for its monthly shows and has become the Garden Route’s favourite and most popular family-friendly social venue. It has also cemented itself as playing host to George’s only music festival at the end of the year, “Die Bush Lapa Musiekfees & Opelug Konsert”.

The Surroundings

The resort is set on 63 hectares of pristine land surrounded by forests and a 180° view of the ocean with Mossel Bay in the background to the right. At night the lights of Mossel Bay and even one or two freight ships on the horizon, add some sparkle to the already majestic theatre of beauty Mother Nature provides.

Add to this the call of fish eagles at sunset, and the crashing of the ocean’s waves at night, and every visitor, whether it’s their first or umpteenth visit to the resort, will feel embraced by this very special showcase of nature. The resort is a popular destination for birdwatchers as several animal and bird species can be found here.
